Opportunities to Replicate the Program in Other Jurisdictions

Major Cliff Uranga, CJM, Jail Administrator and Sr. Chaplain Argyl Dick have been invited to attend the National Institute of Corrections Large Jail Network Meeting in Longmont, Colorado July 10-12, 2005 to present this program to a large group of Jail Administrators from throughout the nation. Also, an article about this program has been approved for publication in the National Institute of Corrections publication in the next two months. Chaplain Dick spoke on "How to Make a Difference in Prisoners" at the National Sheriff's Association on June 27, 2005 in Louisville, Kentucky. He provided information about the content ond success of Oklahoma County Detention Center character programs.

The Juvenile Offender Character First Program and other programs provided at the Oklahoma County Detention Bureau have attracted national and international attention. Representatives from the Unites States (Colorado, California, Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina, Florida, Kansas) and Mexico, Philippines, China, Korea, Cambodia, and Thailand have visited the facility and observed during program implementation.

This highly successful program has also been replicated during the past year with adult inmates identified as leaders in the Security Threat Group classification. This is mainly comprised of those identified as gang leaders or gang members who were involved in fights with other inmates as well as other serious gang activity and have required the use of force to control their disruptive behavior.
