Character Cities: The Media
Keeping Character in the Public Eye
The media in your community can enhance a character initiative by keeping the character qualities and their definitions in front of the citizens.
Display the Character Banner
The promotion of character through the media can take many forms. Some common methods include: newspaper articles and editorials, radio and TV public service announcements, talk shows, websites, and billboards.
Give Character the Recognition It Deserves
Many individuals in every community display good character. By publicly recognizing these individuals, your community accomplishes two purposes: rewarding the individuals for their good character and motivating the rest of the community by providing positive examples. Stories about students, senior citizens, business people, teachers, city employees, committed marriage partners, and volunteers can inspire other community members to make good character an everyday habit.
Reinforce Character in the Family
Children and young adults are greatly influenced by the media. If the atmosphere created by a community's media sector is conducive to positive character development, children and young adults will find it much easier to make wise choices.
